Running
My wife got me into running as a hobby when we met, as she has always been an avid runner since her time as a cross-country super-star in secondary school. I started running with her in 2016 and 2017, and decided to start keeping some nice pictures of our races together in late 2017. I really enjoy the sport, and I love that it is something that my wife and I can share. She constantly amazes me with her ability, and I hope to one day be as fast as she is!

The CARDV run/walk was a great race to get back into running again. I ran a few 5k races when I lived in Kansas, but that was a few years ago. Jackie and I were teaming up with a group from her workplace, and wore some very nice bee costumes, complete with wings and antennae! Everyone was happy and excited to bee there, despite the rain that morning. Jackie and I ran together for the majority of the race. I got a bit ahead early on, as I didn't have the experience to keep it slow at the start. Jackie beat me easily in the last half mile of the race, and showed me just how much more in-shape she was. Overall, it was a really fun race, we will try to do it again in the future!

The Silver Falls Trail Run was an amazing race through the woods and along the trails of Silver Falls State Park. Our friend Robert flew into Portland over the weekend to run the race with us, and we all had a great time splashing through the muddy trail and admiring the multiple waterfalls that we ran beside. Jackie beat me again, this time by a wider margin than our last race. I stuck with her until the 10-mile water station, then lost her on the steep climbs right afterwards. She finished about 10 minutes ahead of me, but came back and ran the last quarter-mile with me so we could finish together! We had such a great time and will try to run the race again in the future. This experience has sold me on the fun of trail runs, they are so enjoyable compared to road running, but the mud and rocks are always something to consider. Silver Falls is a very special place and this run really highlights the best parts of the trail.
